Charlottesville police have aggressively combatted internet crimes against children over the past year. Police have arrested over 30 pedophiles in the area who have exchanged child pornography on the internet.

However, with only 2 detectives working on child sexual abuse cases, the Charlottesville Police Chief says they need more resources to keep pedophiles off the internet.

“All of us would like to think that in Charlottesville, it’s relatively safe,” says Chief Tim Longo. “But these are targeted acts [toward children.]”

Camille Cooper from the National Association to Protect Children came to support the Charlottesville Police at the City Council meeting. She says there are hundreds of predators in Charlottesvile and Albemarle County who trade videos of children on the internet.
